Do No Harm
These blogs represent experience built over a lifetime. During that time, I’ve worked with numerous companies and customers. Throughout all of that work, I made every effort to help others improve their IT infrastructure.
But let’s face it: “Stuff” happens. Please remember that I do make mistakes. Just ask my kids! But even they know that my intent is to be a “doctor” to your OpenVMS storage. As a result, the advise and thoughts you find here are intended to first and foremost “do no harm”! But you must actively participate in the knowledge transfer. I can only offer my experience. You must take and test the experience to see if it compares to your situation. You must test to see if the action might adversely impact your OpenVMS storage. You are responsible for your systems. I can not be.
If you are working through a problem with your OpenVMS storage, it is your responsibility to work with your normal support organization. Either work with HP or an HP partner for that support. These blogs are for your education only. There is no implied or direct commitment of support.
And trust me, I really dislike saying “I told you so!”. So, please remember this site is for your education only. It is not a support system for you or your business.
Paid to Blog
Nope. No payment at all. I do this on my own time.
But, let’s be honest, I do hope through these blogs you will realize that the group in which I work can help you resolve your OpenVMS infrastructure issues. Some of the services that my team offer are:
- OpenVMS SAN Assessments
- OpenVMS Site Assessments
- OpenVMS Disaster Tolerant Clustering Consulting
- OpenVMS Security Analysis
So, sure. I hope to have some benefit out of this. But I am definitely not receiving any direct payment for this blog. Nor does my company know of or control these blogs in any manner.
Language Issues
Since the OpenVMS community is a global community, I make every effort to make this content available to people who speak other languages. To that end, these blogs use the Google Translation services. However, from my own knowledge of German, I recognize the translation is very rough. It is entirely possibel the translated text will be either inappropriate, inaccurate and worse yet, possibly offensive. It is never my intent to offend or have poor translations lead to problems. So, if you find some problem with a translation, remember that I am not responsible for that translation nor any unintentional offsenive content.
However, I do take such situations seriously. I want these blogs to provide a positive, professional environment regardless our language. Remember, our differences actually make us stronger, since we can come together and build a strong community that can help each other.
So, if you find anything offensive in a translation, please let me know. Use the ‘Contact JBF’ form you will find on each and every page and post of the blogs. As soon as possible, I will take action on your request.
Copyright
Since I work for HP, I reserve all rights to the content on these blogs. Though these blogs are my own content and they only present information that has been presented to HP customers, I am not certain I would know how to sort out the copyrights of various material. Thus, I reserve all rights to the content of these blogs.
However, as in any educational environment, I do encourage you to share this knowledge to others. If you do so, please provide attribution for the work. Give credit where credit is due. These blogs take a LOT of extra work. I would like some recognition of that effort.
International and Cultural Laws
Remember my earlier thoughts about “Be Polite”. I make every effort to make certain this site does not offend anyone. But I’m just a “babe in the woods”. It’s entirely possible I might innocently say something that is offensive or illegal in other nations and/or cultures. That is never my intent. If you find something offensive please let me know. Use the ‘Contact JBF’ form you will find on each and every page and post of the blogs. As soon as possible, I will take action on your request.
Limits on Liability and Damage
These blogs are only an educational service. I offer my experience to you and the OpenVMS community. How you apply that experience is your responsibility. I can not and will not accept responsibility for problems that might arise. I make every effort to present accurate and timely information. But this is NOT a support tool for your OpenVMS storage environment. If you are working a problem, then turn to your support organization, not to these blogs.
Why is this only an educational service? Well, problem diagnosis requires direct interaction with the systems. To determine which of many symptoms might lead to a specific resolution, it is necessary to observe the symptoms and then select between options. This is only a one-way flow of information. There is no interaction between us. I can not and will not diagnose problems through these blogs.
If you fail to heed this caution, I will be forced to clearly state “I told you so!”. Should you decide to proceed to court, I will accept no more than a total of $100 in damages for any and all claims. Even that is outrageous. I do not know how to say it more clearly: This is ONLY for your education. Use at your own risk!
